北海道で撮影したムラサキウニの棘をクローズアップ撮影。
棘を含むウニの骨格は、炭酸カルシウムの結晶である方解石でできており、これが規則的な構造に関係していると考えられています。根元の丸い構造物は、棘を動かす筋肉です。

この種類のウニは海岸沿いに非常に多く生息し、数が多いため風景の一部として捉えられることが多いです。ドライスーツに穴を開けたり、増えすぎると昆布などの海藻を食べ尽くしたり、沿岸環境を悪化させたりするため、良いイメージは持たれていません。しかし、それはあくまで人間の都合です。この世界を創造する誰か（神、自然など）の手は、どんな小さなことも、常に完璧です。

A People's Choice Finalist in the Big Picture Photo Competition

I shot spines of sea urchin (Heliocidaris crassispina) with close up wet lens.
The skeleton of the sea urchin, including the spines, is made of calcite, a calcium carbonate crystal, which is thought to be related to the regular structure.I want people to feel the beauty of the details that reside in things that we are familiar with, but that we don't look at carefully.
